A visit to Houston from reality star Kylie Jenner and rapper-slash-native-Houstonian Travis Scott would usually be generally well-received. However, the two are getting backlash for their Houston Zoo outing over the weekend.
The couple took their three-year-old daughter Stormi to get a VIP tour of the zoo Sunday, inconveniencing some local visitors.
In an interview with KPRC 2 Houston, Crystal Stemberger, who was also at the zoo with her three-year-old daughter Cadence, said she couldn't get on the popular carousel ride because the famous family kicked everyone else off.
“We’re going to the carousel because it’s her favorite thing to do,” Stemberger told KPRC 2. “She does it every time we’re there. We scanned her ticket, she got in line maybe two people in or three people about to get on the carousel and then they cleared the entire place out.”
Stemberger told KPRC she tried again later, but the carousel was shut down again.
“Twelve kids were in line the first time, maybe 14 the second time, because it had just reopened,” she said. “They weren’t as important as this family? That doesn’t make sense to me.”
In a statement to KPRC, the Houston Zoo said they closed the carousel for the special guests twice for 30 minutes each time Sunday, and apologized for any inconvenience to other guests.
Social media, however, reacted swiftly with similarly angry accounts.
In a tweet, user @ bitfs said: “@ Kylie Jenner just a sad FYI, but your security cleared out the carousel line at the Houston Zoo twice today after people paid. At noon and again at 12:40 pm. Our 3 year-old was in line both times. We had to leave for her nap time so no carousel for her today.”
Some users shared excitement over the visit and even lamented missing out on seeing the famous family. Others shared photos of the family riding a golf cart during the tour.
The couple documented their visit, which included a stop at Shipley's Do-Nuts, on their respective Instagram Stories. The pair recently announced they are expecting a second child.
A note for future family trips: avoid the carousel at the Houston Zoo.
